Originally from Decatur, I remember when this hotel opened as a Holiday Inn in the 1970s. It was heralded as quite the place back then. I stayed there a few times during the 1980s and early 1990s, but hadn’t been back since it changed hands until this past weekend.

I’ll be honest: a lot of hotels that used to be great when they were part of the Holiday Inn family have suffered considerably after making the changes. Some of these places look dirty, forlorn, and almost dangerous these days. So initially I was not keen on staying at the Decatur Conference Hotel… but, I’m glad I did.
